Girls Day: The Nutcracker.

Grace and I went to the Nutcracker on Friday.
It was lovely.
She completely enjoyed every bit of it.
We both got dressed up and made an outing of it.
We had read the book a few times, so she was familiar with the story.
All throughout the ballet, she would tell me who was who.
She knew all the dancers and literally gasped when the Sugar Plum Fairy came out.
She said, "She's so beautiful."
She also kept saying, "So much loveliness".
It was such a pleasure to take her.

I look forward to doing this again.

Thanksgiving.

Here they are.
They are not in focus.
But as I thought about how disappointed I was that I didn't have a "good" shot of them, I realized that they're just crazy kids and live their life just a bit out of focus. So, be happy that they are actually looking at the camera already. So here you are.

School was cancelled for two days this past week due to icy roads.
It has been warm and raining.
Not good.
Things were looking bleak around here.
Most of our lovely snow was gone.
I could see my driveway.
This is a welcome sight in April, but not in November.
It means I have to regularly check my gutters.
Put salt down to avoid head injuries.
Not play outside.
BUT!
We got snow all night Wednesday and ALL day today.
We are back to winter.
The sled hill is up and running again and the kids are happy.
We are thankful.
For so much.

Our day was full of cooking and eating and relaxing with the people we love.

I hope yours was equally lovely.

These are so cute.
And I love that they can be used for occasions other than Christmas.

Decorating with Walnuts.

{image via Design*Sponge}

I've been working on a project.
The kids have loved watching it come along.
These are my materials...
Oh yeah, add in some spray paint...

This is what I made.
I have them hanging off the corner of my living room mirror.
I have a couple more sets of these that I'm going to distribute around the house.
Doing the spray paint now (read: winter in Alaska) was not ideal.
I had to put the walnuts in a box and make multiple trips in and out of the house with them while the paint was drying. But it worked!
I'm really happy with how they turned out.
I love the simplicity of them.
Go here to get all the details and make some yourself!

Cheez-It's Scrabble!

Check these out!
I just had to share.
Aren't they cute?!
The kids love them.
Frankie picks out the letters he knows and holds them up to show me.
And Grace is spelling little words out of her crackers.

Not a bad way to spend a snack time.

Winter Crabapples.

I can't get enough of these beauties.
I see them all over town.
They are crabapples. I think...

All the trees everywhere are bare and covered with frosted snow.
Then you see these trees with their branches heavy with bright red orbs.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....

Snow.

We have snow.
Lots of snow.
A good two feet of snow.
The sled hill is in full force and the kids are loving it.

Smith, the dog, is super happy with all the snow too.

Frank and I got to take a quick trip (sans short people!) down to Seattle two weekends ago.
We had a very nice time together, walking arm in arm, eating, lurking around bookstores, sitting on the same side of the booth... It was lovely.
Then our colds that were lingering in the background stopped lingering...
We've been sick.
Luckily, the kids have been fine.

Grace and Frankie are both loving their respective schools, super happy to go everyday.
Frank is traveling a lot for work, staying very busy.
I am getting excited about Christmas.
I do believe I am done shopping for the kids!
Wow. It feels weird.
I wanted to scale back starting this year because they have so much already.
I tried to focus on just a few things they would absolutely LOVE and just stick with that.
Of course their stockings will be full a plenty, but those are things they would get regardless.
New markers, pencils, coloring books, pajamas, hair clips, little Thomas the Train cars...
Plus, I looooooove stockings.

I have some new recipes to try this season...
If they turn out good, I'll pass them along!

Sorry I've been gone so long, I'll try to get my act back together.
Hope you're all well.
