More Lunches.

I've got two more lunches to share with you.

Peanut butter sandwich roll.
Carrot sticks.
Frozen yogurt stick.
Pretzels with cheese flowers.
Apple slices.
Yogurt covered strawberry fruit snacks.

Ham triangles.
Cheese wheel (cut in half).
Cucumber mushrooms (I LOVE that cutter!!).
Bow tie wheat crackers.
Oranges.
Hershey Kiss.

The top one is Grace's extra big lunch and the bottom one is Frankie's lunch-on-the-run.

ps. want to know a tip? when I pack apple slices, I shake them around in some orange juice first. Then they don't turn brown!

Harmless Child Labor.

Raking leaves last week.
You know, before the snow came.

The kids are soooo excited that winter is here.

Kincaid Beach, Alaska.

Yesterday, it snowed.
SNOWED.
As in the white, COLD stuff that falls down from the sky in the WINTER time.

BUT, Saturday was beautiful.
We went down to Kincaid Beach and messed around.
We all had a great time.
The kids got dirty and and only a little wet.
The dog ran around like a crazy person.
Frank and I held hands and just felt good about our life together.

Not a bad way to spend a Saturday.

Hope your weekend was equally great!

Birthday Cakes Gone Bad.

Yesterday was my birthday.

It goes without surprise that I make my own cake.
I make the same cake every year.
The same cake my grandma made for my brother and I growing up.
It's our birthday cake.
Chocolate Cake with whipped cream filling and chocolate frosting.

I think about making something different, but never do.

Last year, I dropped the cake as I was taking it out of the fridge.

The kids helped me pick it up....
You may be wondering why I'm wasting time taking pictures and not cleaning or stopping Frankie from licking the floor...
It was just too funny not to.

Here's the funny part.
I did it again this year.

No, I'm not joking.

What is going on...

Grace and Smith.

When things are good, they are good.
Having this dog, is almost like having another baby/kid.
We have had him for 11 weeks now.
I no longer consider taking him back as an option.
That's progress.
He drives us nuts at times, but he's ours and we love him.

See what I mean, just like kids.

Lunch Ideas.

Want to see more lunches?

Cheese, cucumber hearts, butterfly crackers, steamed broccoli, oranges, and a Hershey Kiss.

Peanut butter sandwich, strawberries and olives.

Cheese moons, ham rolls, wheat thins, oranges and a Hershey Kiss.

Strawberries, peanut butter sandwich with provolone smile and raisin eyes, cucumber mushrooms, olives, carrots sticks and a Hershey kiss.

Spruced Up Tote Bag.

My friend had a birthday recently.
I really detest gift bags.
They are crazy money and after you open it up, you're left with this bag...

I like to give gifts in a container that can be used again.
Especially kid gifts.

I grab a 3 pack of these canvas bags from a craft store for around $6.
The buttons were $2. I had everything else.
So even though this "gift bag" may not be as cheap as a paper one, the benefit is it's reusable.
And cute!
For this bag, I just cut some fabric flowers and leaves out of material. After moving things around to find the best, cutest place, I used iron-on tape to adhere the fabric to the bag. Then I stitched around the outline of the flowers and leaves. I finished it with a cute button for the center.
That's it

Turned out pretty cute, huh?

What's in Your Lunchbox?

Remember I told you how much I am enjoying making Grace's lunches?

This is just an example of what I'm doing.
Now, this lunch is a little bigger than I normally make for her because yesterday, we had ice skating lessons after school and whatever was leftover, she could have for a snack.

In case you're wondering, that's strawberries, carrot sticks, a G shaped peanut butter sandwich, provolone cheese, pretzel sticks and fig newtons for a treat.

Here's why I like making her lunches (and Frankie's now too!) like this:
1. When she opens the lid, everything is right there for her. No need to waste her precious 15 minute lunch period trying to open things herself or having to wait (with a quiet hand...) for the lunch lady to help her.
2. No trash. Hello?!
3. It looks fun, so she (Frankie too!) eats it faster.

Cons (these are really very silly)
1. I have to think just a little bit more than normally.
2. I have leftover scraps that I need to make sure I use (more thinking...).

Plus, I love it! Making her lunch is a pleasure because she's super happy with the outcome and that always makes me feel great. In my chosen "profession", happy kids is about as close to a positive performance review as I'm going to get.

Fall Means... Pumpkin Bread.

Cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon.
Oh my!

Beluga Point.

At Beluga Point this past Friday, looking for belugas.

I love this boy.
Pointing with his middle finger and all.

Ride the Tram in Girdwood, Alaska.

Labor Day came and my new friend, Tiffany and I decided we wanted to do something super fun with the kids. She has a three and a five year old too! Oh, and while we were off having fun with the short people, the husbands were off fishing! Win for everybody!

Ever since we moved here, I've wanted to ride the tram up at Alyeska (our local ski resort) in the summer time.

After only three summers, I'm finally doing it!
The experience did not disappoint.
We packed a lunch and ate in the sun.
The day was perfect. Perfect, I tell you.

Blue sky, fall foliage everywhere, warm sun on our faces...
After such a soggy summer, it was a welcome change.

Here's shot looking down at the hotel and where we started.

Chair One, built in 1977.

I love this shot of all the kids looking out.

Frankie, being is usual goofball self.

That is until he fell down on the grate floor and cut his hands open.
Then he spent the rest of the day walking around with his hands up.

I loved how the clouds were at this moment, all in one smooth line across the valley.

It didn't last long.

This guy had just jumped off the side of the mountain.
It was a perfect day for craziness.

We had a great day.
I highly recommend the tram.
Beautiful.
